Knit X-Shaped Drop Stitch Skinny Scarf with Lily Sugar ‘N Cream Faded Denim yarn

Hi, yesterday I started knitting 3 skinny scarves with the Lily Sugar ‘N Cream yarn. When I saw my 3 unfinished knit scarves this morning I got mad and said “I’m finishing one before starting a new one, I don’t want unfinished scarves laying around anymore.”

I picked the faded denim-color X shaped drop stitch skinny scarf. In 2 hours, I finished it!

Before knitting 7 more X- Drop stitches and casting off, it looked like this:

I picked the X shape with garter stitch because I like how the Drop stitch is in 2 colors white and blue.

Pattern for Knit X-Shaped Drop Stitch Skinny Scarf with Lily Sugar ‘N Cream Faded Denim yarn

Using Lily Sugar ‘N Cream yarn in “Faded Denim” color, cast on 8 stitches with size 6.5 mm needles.

Rows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8: knit

Row 9: begin X-shaped Drop Stitch like this: knit 1, knit 1, yarn over 4 times, knit 1, yarn over 4 times, knit 1, yarn over 4 times, knit 1, yarn over 4 times, knit 1, yarn over 4 times, knit 1, yarn over 4 times, knit last stitch

Row 10: knit 1, here’s what’s different from a vertical drop stitch: instead of knitting the next stitch and dropping the yarn over, you slip the next stitch purlwise and drop the yarn overs.

So: slip stitch, drop 4 yarn overs, slip stitch, drop 4 yarn overs, slip stitch, drop 4 yarn overs, slip stitch, drop 4 yarn overs, slip stitch, drop 4 yarn overs, slip stitch, drop 4 yarn overs, knit last stitch

With your left hand needle slip last 3 stitches over the 1st 3 stitches, then pass them to the left hand needle. Finally knit them.

You just knit 8 rows, do the X shaped drop stitch, and repeat for as long as you want it. I repeated it 25 times.

Now I’m ready to start a new scarf.

Beige Flower Basket Skinny Scarf with Lily Sugar ‘N Cream “Natural Ombre” yarn

Hi! I wanted a skinny scarf with this beige yarn. Instead of doing the easy thing of knitting a lace pattern for an hour, I stopped and thought:

How can I knit a lacy pattern that reminds me of an image I know?

I looked around my living room and saw my porcelain flower basket.

The basket colors looked like the “Natural Ombre” yarn. I thought why not knit a basketweave type stitch and a flowery type lace? I knit the linen stitch 5 times, then a diamond cluster lace pattern 6 times. After 30 minutes it looked like this:

Update 1: After an hour:

The linen stitch makes it look like a basket holding blooming flowers. I was surprised to that each “cluster” is a different color white or beige. Would like to try this where the color lasts the 10 stitches of a row.

Beige Flower Basket Skinny Scarf With Lily Sugar ‘N Cream Natural Ombre Yarn Knit Pattern

Cast on 9 stitches of Lily Sugar ‘N Cream Natural Ombre Yarn with size 6.5 needles.

Repeat this 2-row linen stitch 6 times:

Row 1: knit 1, slip 1 with yarn in front, knit 1, slip 1 with yarn in front, knit 1

Row 2: knit 1, purl 1, slip 1 with yarn in back, purl 1, slip 1 with yarn in back, purl 1, knit last stitch

Begin Diamond Cluster Lace pattern and repeat this 4-row pattern 4 times

Row 1: knit 2, yarn over, knit 3, with the left hand needle pass the 3rd stitch on the right hand needle over the 1st 2 stitches, yarn over, knit 3, with the left hand needle pass the 3rd stitch on the right hand needle over the 1st 2 stitches, knit last stitch

Row 2: knit 2, purl 5, knit last 2

Row 3: knit 4, with the left hand needle pass the 3rd stitch on the right hand needle over the 1st 2 stitches, yarn over, with the left hand needle pass the 3rd stitch on the right hand needle over the 1st 2 stitches, knit last 2 stitches

Row 4: knit 2, purl 5, knit last 2

Keep switching from the Linen Stitch to the Dimaond CLuster Lace pattern at least 28 times. Cast off.

I’ll finish this tomorrow while listening to Vaughan sing “Key Largo” and “Black Coffee”

Red Lacy Zig Zag with Pointed Left Border Knit Scarf

Hi! This bright red yarn reminded me of the “grapevine” henna design on Indian woman’s hands. I started knitting a diagonal eyelet pattern. I wasn’t curvy and intricate enough like the henna designs. I also didn’t want another rectangular shaped scarf right now.

I found the pattern called “Bessie’s Leaf Lace” at www.knitting-and.com/homework/bessies-leaf-lace.htm. I started it with my Red Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn. The pattern is 20 rows long. After knitting the 1st 20 rows it looks like this:

I knit this while listening to Sara Vaughan sing “Black Coffee,” and “Key Largo.” They’re the next songs I’m learning to play on the piano. Anyway, I like the middle because it looks like a never-ending vine. Doesn’t it look unique and intricate like a henna design? I then knitted another 20 rows. Here’s how it’s coming along:

Red Lacy Zig Zag with Pointed Left Border Knit Scarf Pattern Instructions

I used Lily Sugar ’n Cream yarn in Red, and size 6.5 needles. Knit “Bessie’s Leaf Lace” pattern below. To make my red lacy zig zag the scarf stay as flat as possible :

In rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, yarn over, purl 1, knit 2 , purl rest of stitches, and knit last 2.
In Rows 12, 14, 16, 18, 20: I knit the first 3 stitches, purl the rest of the stitches, knit last 3 stitches.
In Row 17, I ended with knit 3 together instead of knit 2 together,

Pictures of Knit Scarves Turned Into Headbands

Hi! Because I have long hair I like to accentuate it by wearing a headband. I knit a long skinny scarf and then just tie it behind my head and let one end lay in front of me. I don’t get tired of people saying “Oh you knit this” and then zooming to look at the stitches. It makes me forget I took an hour and a half to knit it.

Knit one yourself. A really simple knit headband is just casting on 8 stitches on a size 6.5mm needle. I learned that casting on less than 8 stitches will make the pattern stretch, and will not be as sturdy and flat. Then knit in garter stitch for about 140 rows. Now,

The fun part is taking it up another level, how?

Embellishing it with details.

Add crocheted flowers,
Weave in a colored ribbon along the middle of your headband
Knit in colors of the occasion. Going to a soccer match? Knit it in the team or country colors!
Textured yarn. Thin ribbon yarn
Multicolor yarn. Have leftover multicolor yarn, knit it on the bias.
Add stripes. Knit it on the bias

Shopping for Lily Sugar ‘N Cream yarn

Hi friends! It’s Saturday again. My yarn shopping day at Michael’s! I needed some knit headbands and light scarves. I remembered Lily Sugar ‘n Cream doesn’t look like yarn, it’s pretty flat, and feels very light. I gave myself $5 to spend on yarn at the Michael’s store in Granada Hills, CA. I bought 5 of them! Each for just $1.49.

Tomorrow I’ll start knitting a headband and thin scarf with each of these colors. Will post the pictures here.

How do I buy the colors? I let the yarn talk to me (am I the only one?)

Here’s what I thought when I saw the yarns:

Lily Sugar ‘N Cream color: “Red” This is so bright. It looks like the henna in the Bollywood movies. A lacy pattern or leaf pattern on a thin scarf. Interesting over a white blouse.

Lily Sugar ‘N Cream color: “Faded Denim” Matches with any blue jeans. Nice for a headband. A lacy pattern would really bring out the shades of blue.

Lily Sugar ‘N Cream color: “Country” A summery color. Like the sling chair you see at the beach. Self striping? Wow. Bye Bye Multicolor yarn! Hello Sugar ‘N Cream stripes. Would make a cool diagonally striped thin scarf.

Lily Sugar ‘N Cream color: “Natural Ombre” Nice for a light belt to make you look thinner. Matches with any beige pants and white top.

Last but not least, I grab a $1 ribbon:

Blue flowers. Would look cool weaved in dark blue yarn for a unique headband. I have lots of dark blue yarn. Why not a simple eyelet scarf and just slip it in?

By the way, Lionbrand’s Incredible Yarn would look like a shiny headband or scarf. There wasn’t any at the store! I asked the sales clerk and she said that they’re not sure if they’ll bring more or was probably discontinued. I drove 20 minutes to the Michael’s in Tarzana, and no Incredible yarn either! Same answer from their sales clerk. What happened?

Knit Black with Thin Purple Diagonal Stripes Skinny Scarf

Here I go on another Liza “Cabaret” inspired scarf. I was watching the “Mein Herr” video on my cell phone and thought “Hey, the hat looks like a black scarf knit on the bias with purple thin stripes!.” A picture of it:

In the scene she wears it tilted to her right side. The black hat with purple ribbon up close:

Have you seen people’s clothes and recognized a knitting pattern?

Tonight, I finished a feather and fan scarf with 14 stitches per row. I needed a break from long rows. At half past midnight I started this scarf with 8 stitches to make it skinny. Tomorrow I’ll finish it.

Update: This morning I finished it in an hour and a half. It’s so skinny I’m using it as a headband and let the ends lay in front of me. It looks like this:

Knit Black with Thin Purple Diagonal Stripes Skinny Scarf Free Pattern:

With size 11 needles, cast on 6 stitches with black yarn. Begin knitting on bias:

Start all over with the black yarn, then with the purple yarn. Switch from black to purple for 50 times. Cast off.

I admire how Liza sings “Maybe This Time” in the Cabaret movie. I’ve seen it many times. I even recorded it on to my cell phone. Her blouse is white with black thin curvy stripes.

To me, it looked like a feather and fan pattern in white with just 2 repetitions in black. I tried it and here’s how it looks after 40 minutes. I made sure it was just 14 stitches on the needle. I’ll finish it tonight.

With size 11 needles and white yarn knit 16 rows for a solid edge.

Black and Purple Striped Knit Scarf with Feather and Fan pattern

After finishing the Purple and Black “V” striped scarf, I wanted another type of stripe. I picked a wavy stripe using the feather and fan pattern.

I knit it with size 11 needles so it’s light and lacy. I knitted only 30 rows and 3 stripes. In 1 hour it looked like this:

I plan to finish it tomorrow, after practicing the piano in the early morning. I want to learn “Little Girl Blue” sung by Judy Garland.

Update: I knit this for 1 hour while listening to Rosemary Clooney sing “I Ain’t Got Nobody.” It’s the next song I’m learning on the piano. I hope to finish this scarf tonight. Here’s how it looks now:

Update 2: As I was knitting it for 1 hour and half tonight I was saying to myself:

so many stitches per row
if this was a skinny scarf I’d be done by now
from now on I’m knitting scarves with no more than 12 stitches per row (this one had 16)
I wonder how a white lace scarf would look

so I cast off and it looks like this:

The first 2 and the last 2 stitches of every row I used the knit stitch so it would stay as flat as possible. The actual pattern is 4 rows. To make the stripes thicker I changed colors every 8 rows.

cast on 16 stitches with size 11 needles

Repeat Rows 1-4 twice:

Row 1: knit 2, knit 2 together 2 times, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, knit 2 together 2 times, knit 2
Row 2 and 3: knit
Row 4: knit 3, purl 10, knit last 3

With black yarn

Repeat Rows 1-4 twice:

Row 1: knit 2, knit 2 together 2 times, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, knit 2 together 2 times, knit 2
Row 2 and 3: knit
Row 4: knit 3, purl 10, knit last 3

Now switch back to the purple yarn and repeat rows 1-4 twice. Then switch to the black yarn and repeat rows 1-4 twice.

Until the scarf is as long as you want.

Sometimes you don’t have time to knit a long thin scarf. Yet, you still want to wear something knitted. Why not knit a long thin, skinny scarf? Just 5-stitches per row!

You can use it to dress up your simple one-color blouses and tank tops. Here are pictures of knit scarves I knit and use over my tops. No need to sew them on. Lacy Skinny Scarf with Lily Sugar ‘N Cream Denim Twist yarn

I knit this lacy skinny scarf after the one with 2 columns. I wanted to finish the Lily Sugar ‘n Cream “denim twist” color yarn.

I prefer regular colored yarn. The “twisted” effect really doesn’t let many patterns be visible. Might as well knit in garter stitch. I picked this lacy stitch so the stitch is more visible than the blue white twist. Here’s a picture of the lacy stitch:
