Before the weekend, I wanted to knit at least one blue scarf. I didn’t have a light, lacy blue scarf to wear in this heat. I only had these:
That’s why quickly knit this simple vertical drop stitch blue scarf.
I like how soft Caron Simply Soft Yarn feels on my fingers when I knit. The color can match with any color jeans. Doesn’t it look soft?
Knit Skinny Denim-Color Vertical Drop Stitch Scarf Pattern Instructions:
from A Long Thin Knit Scarf Blog at http://1knitscarf.wordpress.com/
I used the size 11 needles for 2 reasons. One, to finish in 2 hours. Two, so the drop stitch is spread out, lacier and lighter. It looks like a fish net.
- Cast on 8 stitches
- Row 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6: Knit
- Row 7: begin the drop stitch: Across the row: knit 1, yarn over twice

- Row 8: across the row, knit 1, drop 2 yarn overs
- Row 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13: Knit
- Row 14: drop stitch across row: knit 1, yarn over twice
- Row 15: knit 1, drop 2 yarn overs
- Row 16, 17, 18 and 19: knit

That’s it. Now repeat this 26 times:
Begin drop stitch: knit 1, yarn over twice
Knit 1, drop 2 yarn overs
Knit 4 rows
When you end the scarf, knit a fifth row to cast off.

I can’t buy too much yarn so I always bought Michael’s “Red Heart.” After trying Caron Simply Soft for $2.99, I feel like I’m in a baby blanket!
I like knitting the drop stitch with size 6.5 needles because the scarf is sturdier. I’ll start a drop stitch scarf with size 11 needles and see how light the scarf feels.
